consumer self-care
industry
CHPNZ is the voice of the consumer self-care industry. It represents manufacturers and distributors of non-prescription healthcare products. These products help New Zealanders look after their own and their families' health through informed, responsible self-medication.
We may have changed our name from NZSMI to CHPNZ – but the ethical framework we practise remains the same. We’re committed to ensuring that safe, effective self-care products are accessible for all Kiwis.
The RegTech committee meets eight times a year to better understand what it takes to grow the complementary healthcare market. Made up of both industry employees and expert consultants, the committee manages the relationship between sponsors and Medsafe. It deals with regulatory and technical issues and it is in charge of promoting the highest standard of product manufacture and availability. The committee ensures all marketing claims are appropriate, truthful, and in line with regulatory requirements, while helping to educate the public about responsible self-medication.

Our Board represents some of New Zealand’s biggest importers, manufacturers, and distributors of non-prescription medicines.
We’re proud of the wealth of industry knowledge our Board carries, and fortunate to be able to draw on it in our work.
