CHPNZ Code of Practice

  • Addresses our two key objectives: (1) to develop and sustain an environment for the practice of responsible self-medication, (2) and to promote appropriate standards of commercial conduct. 
  • Sets the ethical standards for the advertising and promotion of non-prescription consumer healthcare products in New Zealand.
  • Communicates the regulations around advertising and promotion; highlighting what is and isn’t acceptable.
  • Ensures that we maintain a consistently high level of integrity both as individual members and as a joint collective.
  • Encompasses both below-the-line promotional material aimed at consumers and marketing directed at healthcare professionals. 
  • Covers the fine print around administration, complaint procedures, sanctions, right of appeal, and monitoring of advertising. 
  • Is monitored by the CHPNZ Marketing and Ethics subcommittee.

Acceptance and observance of the Code is binding, and a condition of membership of CHPNZ (formally NZSMI).
